Golden Ocean Chinese Restaurant

Mine Hosts, Tony and Angela have flitted from the "Great Wall" in Helensburgh to run this Oriental haven on Britains only "mainland island", as the Kintyre Tourist Board would have us believe. Unusually for, a fishing port, seafood is not currently big on the menu but Tony loves his seafood and I foresee changes afoot. If you enjoy seafood, ask Tony what's available, he's at the fishmarket most days, weather permitting so there may just be a surprise afoot. We enjoyed a fresh scallop and prawn with ginger and spring onion etc. accompanied by fish in black bean and I think, a fish sauce. Both exceedingly delicious and neither were on the menu. Our other maincourse, from the menu, was SYABAS Lamb, equally delicious. We visited at lunchtime expecting to place to be quiet, the last time I visited C/town it was shut, I mean C/town, not the restaurant. What a surprise, although early in their trading day the place was busy with an East Coast family there for their umteenth time, one of their parting shats as they left was, "this is the best Chinese food we've ever tasted", with "see you tomorrow" as a parting gesture. That says it all. The restaurant itself is efficiently run with Angella and one other girl waiting table with accasional help from Tony, a nice touch was the miniature Chopsticks securing the bun at the back of the waitresses head. I'm sorry I didn't get her name or she would have had more of a mention. Back to the facts, apart from the seafood the menu is quite extensive with something to suit all pallets, a starter I've not seen before was BBQ Pork Crackling, delicious.
